The Day of the Dead festivities in the Mission District of San Francisco were a magical celebration that felt alive with cultural truth. The Mission has always been one of my favorite parts of the city, a place that remains deeply rooted in tradition despite the overwhelming forces of gentrification and techno-capitalism that have drained much of San Francisco’s soul. The Mission District stands proudly with the weight of its history and the richness of its culture.
These celebrations, with their passion and reverence, served as a bold stand against the forces that seek to homogenize and erase. In this moment of celebration, the Mission honors something real in a city increasingly devoid of it.
